Toastmasters Beograd (TMB) is a member of the Toastmasters International (TMI). TMI is a non-profit organization established in 1924 in USA and gathers 332,000 members worldwide, with 15,400 TM Clubs in 135 countries.
TMB uses a TMI educational program and conducts meetings in accordance with an already agreed programme used by all other TM clubs in the world.
“Toastmasters International “ is educational program with recommendations and guidance which enable us to develop and enhance our communication and leadership skills and public speaking capacity. We learn how to address public and collaborators on concise, clear and grammatically correct way, using Serbian and English language in daily conversations, official talks and/or professional presentations. We also learn how to provide fast answers on unexpected and sudden questions, verbal and non-verbal expression and vocal variety.
All these skills are necessary for self-confident and effective communication in both academic/business career and private life, i.e. when applying for a new position, taking part in projects, giving lectures and presentations and/or during public speaking.
If translated into Serbian, Toastmasters would be those giving a toast, talented in public speaking and everyday conversations, clear and concise while requesting and explaining, full of self-confidence and grammatically correct. Additionally, they learnt fast thinking and prompt responding to unexpected questions, with proper body language and vocal varieties.
TMB members use TMI manuals to help them master these skills. The basic Competent Communicator Manual is translated into Serbian language and consists of ten projects. Members themselves can choose the topic in order to reach the objectives, but TMB strictly prohibits hate and discriminatory speech.
In addition to the Communication Programme, TMB members also complete the Competent Leadership Programme. Some of these skills also include: supportive and constructive evaluation; developing skills for giving and accepting suggestions and criticism; efficient use of allocated time and meeting protocol; proper use of technology during presentations; organising speaking contests.
